The strangest delivery in baseball is so weird and funky MLB had to decide whether it's legal

Recently recalled Marlins Marlins reliever Carter Capps sure has one funky delivery. He takes a little hop forward as he delivers his pitch and gets several inches closer to the plate before releasing the ball. Check it out:

The delivery has caused such controversy that, when he was in Triple A last week, an umpire deemed the delivery illegal and called two straight balls on Capps' first two pitches. The Marlins asked MLB for a ruling, and it came back in Capps' favor. Here's what Capps told MLB.com:

"They just said they wanted me to make sure I dragged my foot and not get too elevated in the air, and make sure it's more on a lateral plane," Capps said. "As long as I do that, they have no problem with it. But it was very strange."

If his delivery looks familiar, it's because Jordan Walden of the St. Louis Cardinals has a similar move and has been doing it for years. Maybe that's why MLB sanctioned Capps' delivery.
