There's a scenario brewing that could have Tony Romo and Dak Prescott trading places.

But it's probably not what you think. The Cowboys are one win away from clinching home field advantage through the NFC Playoffs, and that could come as soon as next week with a win over the New York Giants, along with some help from some other top teams in the conference.
That would leave three pretty much meaningless games on the schedule, and the strong likelihood that coaches will choose to rest a large number of starters—-leaving the door open for Romo to take over under center.
The advantages there are two-fold. Getting Romo out on the field to showcase his wares for a potential offseason trade, and getting him a good enough amount of work so he'd be ready should disaster—-a Prescott injury—-happen in the playoffs.

Of course, the decision isn't as cut-and-dry as it might seem. Resting Prescott over those three games means risking the possibility that his hot hand could cool off, and playing him means risking injury.
Either way, similar to when the whole dilemma about who should start between the two took center stage, it's definitely not the worst problem to have.
