While Florida fans aren't exactly rejoicing over starting quarterback Luke Del Rio being injured for the South Carolina game, they are fairly happy about seeing a new face under center. Purdue transfer Austin Appleby will get the start as he takes first team snaps this week in practice.

While Appleby did get two starts this season, they came at Tennessee and at Vanderbilt. With his first home start this season, Florida continues a rather dubious streak that Gator fans were surely hoping to end this season.
Luke Del Rio being out this weekend means Florida will have started a backup QB in The Swamp in each of the last five years.

And if you expand to any game where a backup had to make a start, the streak goes back longer:
Also, it had already been seven straight years starting a backup, but 2010/2011 didn't feature backup starters at home.

Not good. Not good at all. Jim McElwain is going to have to take the training wheels off either Kyle Trask or Feleipe Franks next year if he wants to keep his job and keep boosters and fans happy.
