Taylor Townsend withdrew from the Guadalajara Open for emergency surgery days after winning the U.S. Open women's tennis doubles title.

The 30-year-old American announced the withdrawal in a statement to the WTA 500 event and on Instagram. She did not specify the procedure or where it took place.
"On the heels of achieving my first career Grand Slam at the U.S. Open, I was so excited to play in front of all of you in Guadalajara," Townsend said. "Because of emergency surgery, I am forced to withdraw from the GDL Open, and it breaks my heart. But I'm looking forward to coming back here next year to see all of you, the greatest tennis fans. Viva Mexico!!!"
On Instagram, she posted a hospital-bed photo and wrote that the setback "definitely wasn't on my bingo card." She later said she had gone more than 36 hours without food and that her son, A.J., told her to "flex up and be strong." After the procedure, she posted that she was leaving the hospital to rest and heal.
Townsend had already beaten Tatjana Maria 6-7 (0), 6-3, 6-2 in the first round. Her withdrawal gave top seed Marta Kostyuk a walkover into the quarterfinals.
The news came less than a week after Townsend and Kate?ina Siniaková completed a career Grand Slam as a team. The top seeds defeated Ashlyn Krueger and Robin Montgomery 5-7, 6-0, 6-2 in the U.S. Open final on Sept. 11, adding New York to titles at Wimbledon in 2024, the Australian Open in 2025 and the French Open in June. They had lost the 2025 U.S. Open final to Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe.
Townsend also reached the singles fourth round in New York before losing to No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka. She is ranked No. 2 in doubles. Siniaková is No. 1.
