Troopers said the crash occurred shortly before 5:30 p.m. on state Route 309 in Claridon Township, per WBNS.
According to investigators, Moran was driving a Hyundai Elantra eastbound when her vehicle struck the rear of a GMC Acadia that was stopped and waiting to make a left turn. The Hyundai then crossed the center line and was struck by a westbound Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Moran was ejected from her vehicle and transported to Marion General Hospital, where she later died from her injuries, authorities said.
The drivers of the GMC and Jeep were treated for minor injuries.
Moran recently completed her freshman season as a pole vaulter for the University of Toledo women's track and field team. She placed 10th at the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships with a personal-best vault of 3.57 meters, the sixth-best mark in program history.
Before attending Toledo, Moran starred at River Valley High School in Caledonia, where she competed in basketball, cross country and track and field. She set the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference pole vault record with a clearance of 12 feet, 1.5 inches.
"The University of Toledo community is heartbroken by the loss of Eva Moran," athletic director Tom Moreland said in a statement, describing her as an outstanding student-athlete whose positive spirit impacted those around her.
The crash remains under investigation.
