An 18-year-old football player from Illinois  has died after he was punched during a weekend party, and cops say a 17-year-old former teammate has been arrested in the case.

Jacob Arter, a player at Breese Central Community High School, was at a bonfire Saturday night when he was punched by the suspect and collapsed, according to KMOV-TV. A student at the party drove Arter to a local medical facility while another performed CPR in the back seat, but Ater was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Arter, the television station reported, was planning to play football at Illinois College, a small liberal arts school.

Police announced Monday they've arrested a 17-year-old suspect who was placed in juvenile detention. KMOV reported that the suspect - whose identity wasn't released because he's a juvenile - was a member of the football team until he was dismissed for poor grades.
