The Florida athletics department brought back one of its most legendary figures with the announcement that former Gator coach and quarterback Steve Spurrier is now an Ambassador and Consultant. On Friday, Spurrier announced that Florida football would be honoring Spurrier’s 1990-91 team during the 2016 season.

On November 12 when Florida will be playing Spurrier’s old team South Carolina, Florida plans to honor Spurrier’s 1990-91 team. Spurrier’s team in 91′ gave Florida its first ever SEC title — Florida clinched the title outright partially because the SEC Title game wasn’t invented yet. Florida finished the year with a 10-2 overall record, and an undefeated 7-0 one inside the SEC.

Florida announced in June that they would be renaming Florida Field to Steve Spurrier-Florida Field.
