Ben Roethlisberger the latest to back Tom Brady in DeflateGate ruling

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger thinks NFL commissioner Rodger Goodell jumped to a "pretty harsh punishment."

Although the two-time Super Bowl champion admitted he didn't follow the case he told NBC Sports that he had an "inkling" the NFL was in the wrong and Brady would play in week 1— something that isn't necessarily good for his team but it is good for his sense of competition.

"I still have a ton of respect for Tom," Roethlisberger told NBC Sports in a conference call on Sunday. "I think he's the best in the business. If you want to be the best, you have to beat the best. Of course one part of me doesn't want him out there because he is the best in the world, but a bigger part of me as a competitor wants him out there because he is the best."

Roethlisberger and Brady face off Thursday Sept. 10 in New England for the first game of the 2015 season.
