Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles were looking to bounce back from the downward spiral that occurred in the second half of last season. But so far to no avail. They blew a lead in the final seconds of Monday Night Football last week and this week, they have gone scoreless in the first half.
Fans Go Scorched Earth on Jalen Hurts After Ugly First Half
Eagles fans, known for being among the most passionate groups in the NFL, had no mercy for their starting quarterback. After throwing an interception and zero touchdowns in the first half, fans laid into Hurts.
"JALEN HURTS!!!!! THERE HE IS BABY!!!! AN INTERCEPTION MANIAC!!!!!"
one fan said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
"If you're a bettor, bet your life savings on Jalen Hurts to throw an interception next week," another fan added.
"Jalen Hurts throwing interceptions is nothing new and never will be anything new. Because water is still wet," another person said.
"Can't wait to hear Jalen Hurts' postgame comments, how he "learned" from his interception and fumble. His bullshit is starting to wear out," another said.
Hurts led the Eagles to a 7-0 start to the 2023 season. But after the New York Jets ruined the Eagles chance to run the table in Week 8 of last season, things have gone downhill. Hurts has thrown an interception in seven consecutive regular-season games. Hurts also leads the league in interceptions dating back to the start of 2023 with 28 giveaways.
Eagles' Star Dealing With "Illness"
The Eagles quarterback has struggled mightily to start the season. And Hurts' struggles were showcased in primetime when the Eagles took on the Atlanta Falcons last Monday. He threw just one touchdown for 183 yards and had a passer rating of just 88.6.
But according to the Philadelphia Enquirer, Hurts is dealing with an "illness." That could explain his recent stretch of lackluster play.
"The hoarse voice of Hurts after Monday night's game wasn't just because of a few outbursts after a couple of big plays, or the apparent postgame talk he had with his teammates following the loss," the Enquirer writes.
Hurts said Wednesday that he lost his voice over the weekend because of an illness he was dealing with last week.
