Another Major Golfer's Masters Status Is Uncertain Due to Injury

Collin Morikawa isn't making any promises.

With the Masters here, the former major winner is still trying to figure out if his body will cooperate. A lingering back issue has kept him out since he withdrew after just one hole at THE PLAYERS Championship.

And it hasn't fully settled.

"It's not exactly where I want to be," Morikawa said, via PGATour.com. "I can't push it."

That's the reality right now.

He skipped the Valero Texas Open last week, leaving his status for Augusta very much up in the air. He did get in a nine-hole practice round Monday, which is something, but it's not a full green light.

The bigger issue isn't just pain. It's trust.

"When you hurt yourself swinging, it's a completely different beast," he said. "There's a little bit of a commitment, trust issue."

That's tough for a player whose game is built on precision.

Morikawa admitted there are shots he normally hits that just aren't on the table right now. That means adjusting on the fly, both physically and mentally.

Still, don't rule him out completely.

He's been consistent at Augusta, with four straight top-15 finishes and a third-place showing in 2024. Earlier this year, he won at Pebble Beach and was rolling before the injury hit.

Now it's about getting through the week.

"Work in progress," Morikawa said.

That might be enough. Or it might not.
