Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo appears to have suffered a serious back injury on Sunday afternoon against the New England Patriots, his former team.
Garoppolo was transported to a local hospital, according to Heidi Fang of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, and was quickly ruled out for the remainder of the game. The good news for the Raiders quarterback is that he was able to walk to the locker room under his own power, prior to ultimately being transported by ambulance to the hospital.

Before getting hurt just before halftime, Garoppolo completed 14-of-22 passing attempts for 162 yards with one touchdown to one interception as the Raiders went into halftime with a 13-3 lead.
In Garoppolo's absence, Brian Hoyer came on at quarterback for the Raiders, as Garoppolo underwent further tests and evaluations for his injury. In 77 career games, Hoyer completed 59.4 percent of his passes, entering Sunday, with 10,688 career passing yards to go along with 53 touchdowns and 35 interceptions.
Through the first five games of this season, Garoppolo completed 68.8 percent of his passes for 917 yards with six touchdowns and seven interceptions.
The Raiders signed Garoppolo as a free agent this past offseason, in hopes that a reunion with head coach Josh McDaniels would provide some added stability to an offense that had underachieved in recent years with Derek Carr behind center.
During his time with the San Francisco 49ers, Garoppolo made one Super Bowl appearance while posting a 38-17 record through his six seasons in the Bay Area. However, injuries have plagued Garoppolo's career, costing him 31 games to date.
As the fourth quarter of Sunday's game at Allegiant Stadium entered the fourth quarter, the Raiders led the Patriots 19-10, aiming to close out a second consecutive win, after knocking off the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football to close out Week 5 of the season.
