The way Kentucky runs its recruiting cycle and basketball team it's quite normal for freshmen to take the reigns when they step on campus. However, there's one top tier recruit who'd rather sit behind a veteran to start his career. De'Aaron Fox spoke to the Courier-Journal about his desire for Ulis to stay and help him out getting used to Wildcats basketball.
"I'd really like to play with Tyler," he said, as in Ulis, the sophomore who most expect will turn pro after earning SEC Player of the Year this season. "Just because he's one of the best point guards in the country and every day in practice he would do nothing but make you better, playing against him.
"He could teach you to run a team. To me, in my eyes, he was the best point guard in the country this year."
It doesn't seem likely that Ulis will actually return to school, especially since Coach Cal basically guaranteed Ulis would be taken in the NBA Draft this year. The coach also said that his entire team is going to declare for the draft so it's highly unlikely that Ulis won't go pro. It is refreshing to see an incoming freshman know his limitations and want to seek help from a veteran though.
