While recruits are weighing their options, flipping from previous commitments and playing the "who wants me most" game, one recruit in New Jersey has been hung out to dry by University of Connecticut head coach Randy Edsall.
According to NJ.com, Edsall called two-star New Jersey linebacker Ryan Dickens Sunday evening, seven months after he verbally committed, to tell him he no longer had a scholarship.
"And the next thing you hear is Ryan's like, 'You're kidding, right?'" Patti Dickens said. "And then he put the phone on speaker and Edsall said, 'No, Ry, we just decided we're going to go in another direction. We don't have a spot for you.'"
Dickens committed to former coach Bob Diaco in June of 2016, but he was fired in December and is now the Nebraska defensive coordinator.
Edsall was hired on December 30 and reportedly called Dickens to ensure his scholarship was safe on New Year's Day. The scholarship pull comes five days before the recruit's 18th birthday.
As fluid as situations are with recruits and their interest in schools, it appears the same can be said with coaches coming and going in bunches.
Dickens has reportedly since received an offer from FCS Rhode Island. The Rams play UConn in 2018.
