It was nothing but love from Angel Reese for Caitlin Clark in the WNBA All-Star Game on Saturday. Until now, the two rookie sensations had been considered bitter rivals.
But that's more media- and fan-generated than reality. Truth is, each has a great deal of respect for the other's game. Clark was the No. 1 overall pick by the Indiana Fever; Reese the No. 7 overall by the Chicago Sky.
They are setting all kinds of rookie records, Clark with her scoring and assist numbers, Reese with her double-doubles. They are singlehandedly taking the WNBA to new heights.
On Saturday, for the first time, they became teammates — with Team WNBA, which toppled Team USA by a 117-109 count. Frankly, the game wasn't even that close. Not surprisingly, Reese recorded a double-double and Clark finished with 10 assists.
"It's so cool," Reese told reporters of playing with Clark. "When she gets the ball, I'm running to look for the ball because I know she's gonna throw it.
"She's been great to play with. In the future, we're going to be playing with each other a lot. Hopefully in four years, we can be Olympians together."

At one point during the WNBA All-Star game, Reese even stood up while on the bench to root on Clark when it looked like Clark would take a 3-pointer (she decided to pass).
"Reese does seem to have a legitimate issue with the media's portrayal of her and Clark on the basketball totem pole," wrote Darryn Albert of Larry Brown Sports. "But when it comes to Clark herself, whom Reese will likely be forever linked with, it seems that there is no true bad blood there."
