Caitlin Clark Breaks WNBA Single-Game Assists Record In Her Rookie Season

In the Indiana Fever's 101-93 loss to the Dallas Wings, Caitlin Clark made history as she recorded 19 assists and 24 points (10/19 FG shooting).

To point out, the previous single-game WNBA assist record was 18, which had been held by Courtney Vandersloot for the Chicago Sky ever since Aug. 31, 2020, which she accomplished in a game vs. the Fever.

Not to mention, Vandersloot also tied her career-best with 18 in a playoff game on Sept. 28, 2021 vs. the Connecticut Sun, in which she recorded a triple-double in the win.

On the other hand, Clark's historic performance came in a loss, as her and teammate Aliyah Boston looked like a two-woman show out there. Notably, Boston put up a career-high 28 points, scoring off of nine of Clark's dimes.

That is to say, the No. 1 overall pick in 2023, Boston, and the No. 1 overall pick in 2024, Clark, both combined for 52 points. In particular, the rookie Clark scored or assisted on 66 of the Fever's 93 points. To put into perspective, this is also a record, as the previous most assisted/scored point total by a single player was Diana Taurasi on August 10, 2006 in a 3OT win vs. the Houston Comets.

When viewing Clark's record-breaking night, Boston said, "She's going to say it means nothing, but I think it's pretty cool."

"I just try to set my teammates up for success," Clark said postgame. "I think at times I can almost overpass, especially with AB [Boston], I'm just looking to set her up so much. My eyes are just always on our post players."

Heading into the WNBA month-long break, Clark is averaging 17.1 points (40.5% FG; 32.7% 3PT), 5.8 rebounds, 8.2 assists to go along with 1.5 steals and 0.8 blocks.

Fans will be able to watch Clark play in the 2024 AT&T WNBA All-Star game on July 20, at 8:30 pm ET (ESPN/ABC).
