Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham is once again weighing in on one of the most debated issues in sports.

During an interview with ESPN, Cunningham said she believes women's sports should be reserved for biological women while also pushing back against claims that her views are rooted in hatred toward transgender people.
"I got a lot of negative feedback about me hating trans," Cunningham said. "I never once said that."
She added: "I think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest. And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn't have to go against biological men."
Cunningham also rejected attempts to label her politically, saying she doesn't fully identify with either side.
"I'm very much in the middle," she told ESPN. "I agree with things on both sides, disagree with things on both sides."
The comments echo a position Cunningham has expressed before. In 2022, she voiced support for fairness in women's athletics after sharing comments about the participation of transgender athletes in women's competition. At the time, she also said she supports people of all backgrounds while hoping opportunities to compete are provided fairly.
Cunningham, 29, is in her second season with the Fever and recently hosted a youth basketball camp for girls in grades 1-8.
She entered Wednesday averaging 9.4 points per game as Indiana continued its push toward the WNBA playoffs.
