Her estranged wife, Cherelle Griner, is asking a court to award her financial support, citing a substantial gap between their incomes, according to court documents obtained by TMZ.
Cherelle said she cannot meet her monthly financial needs without continued support from the WNBA star. The request is part of her response to Brittney's divorce petition; the court has not ruled on it.
Cherelle is also seeking joint legal custody of their son, Bash. She asked the court to determine physical custody and parenting time based on the child's best interests.
The couple married June 18, 2018, and separated July 24, 2026, according to Cherelle's filing. She described the marriage as irretrievably broken, with no hope of reconciliation. Brittney filed for divorce in July.
Their split has drawn attention in part because Cherelle was a prominent advocate for Brittney during the basketball star's detention in Russia. She publicly pressed for her release before Brittney returned to the United States in 2022.
Now the decisions are far more private, even with the court filings drawing public attention. The two sides must sort out support and a parenting arrangement for their son. Cherelle has stated what she wants, but her request does not establish what Brittney will ultimately be ordered to pay.
The divorce case remains ongoing.
