Details emerge in Vegas shooting death of college football player

Nelson was shot to death last Saturday.

Missouri State running back Richard Nelson was shot to death last week outside of his Las Vegas home, and it looks like police have shone more light on the situation.

According to ESPN, a 17-year old male and his mother have been arrested in connection in the death, with the 17-year-old being held in a juvenile detention center on suspicion of murder with a deadly weapon. The mother was arrested as an accessory to the murder.

Per NBC 3 in Vegas, Nelson went to help a family member involved in a fight when the shooting occurred. According to the report, a male fired several shots before he and several others involved in the fight got away prior to police arriving.

Nelson was wounded multiple times before being pronounced dead at a local medical center. He was only 18 years old.
