ESPN names the school with the best "strength of record" and it isn't Alabama

That's definitely a little odd.

Most people think of Alabama as having the best "strength of record" considering the competition they face year in and year out, but that distinction actually belongs to another SEC school. ESPN's measurement of strength of record has Georgia at the top of that list and actually has TCU ahead of the Crimson Tide as well:

While there are some one-loss teams in there, like Seth Walder noted, Washington fell out after their upset loss to Arizona State thanks to that loss and a few super cupcakes they scheduled at the beginning of the season. Georgia has huge wins over Vanderbilt, Tennessee and Missouri in the last few weeks as well as that win at Notre Dame early in the season to boost their resume.
