Kansas was looking to make some major moves in the Big 12 this under third-year head coach David Beaty. He was a huge part of the upset over Texas last year and he got what he considered a huge recruiting in JUCO transfer Octavius Matthews. However, he won't be suiting up this season or any other season because of a heart condition they found in him.

The 6-foot-1 running back had originally committed to Auburn, but made a change in January of this year and eventually ended up with the Jayhawks. The heart condition has been deemed too serious to allow him to continue playing and it runs in the family as his mother passed away from heart complications earlier this year.
While at Itawamba Community College, Matthews averaged 7.2 yards per carry and and 14.7 yards per reception while scoring eight total touchdowns in nine games.
