We can't go a day without coronavirus updates dominating the news. Many people still are not taking the threat to public health and safety seriously, and yet another life has been claimed as a result of the global pandemic.

Former Texas A&M basketball player David Edwards died in New York City after contracting the COVID-19 strain of coronavirus, the respiratory illness infecting thousands around the world. As a beloved leader for the Aggies, Edwards' death hit the community hard. Former teammate Charles Henderson broke the news via Facebook on Monday night.

"Never in a million years would I have even imagined my backcourt teammate would go before his time. I just got the news that Dave Edwards passed away. For those that have been praying for him, he is now in a better place.
"This coronavirus has hit me in the heart. We need to find a vaccine. Dave was one of the fiercest competitors and best point guards that I've ever met. Nearly unstoppable. Learned a how to become tough as nails competing against him everyday and shaking off adversity. Will also remember the 4 years we were together after you transferred from Georgetown to Texas A&M. RIP Dave Boogie!!!!

A Texas A&M University official confirmed his tragic death to the Dallas Morning News.
After starting his college career at Georgetown, where he played 31 games as a true freshman alongside NBA Hall of Famers Alonzo Mourning and Dikembe Mutombo, Edwards transferred to College Station. Between the 1991-94 seasons, he appeared in 85 games, averaging 13.5 points, 7.1 assists, 4.9 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game. As a senior, Edwards led the Southwest Conference with 265 assists as the Aggies went 19-11, finished 10-4 in SWC play, and reached the NIT Tournament.
Edwards is one of 12 Division I college basketball players to ever record three triple-doubles in a single season. Other names on that list include Jason Kidd, "The Admiral" David Robinson, Shaquille O'Neal, Andre Iguodala, and Ja Morant.
Former St. John's basketball player Lee Green also died from complications of coronavirus Monday night, his former teammate Lamont Middleton told The New York Post.
Please, if you aren't taking the necessary steps to keep yourself and your family healthy, do so. It's only a short time that we're all stuck being homebodies, but it could save your life or the life of someone you love.
