Ex-MMA Fighter Lumumba Sayers Allegedly Committed Murder To Avenge Son's Death

Former MMA fighter Lumumba Sayers shot and killed a man while at a child's pool party, one year after his own son was murdered. According to the Commerce City Police Department, this incident occurred on Saturday evening, August 10 in Commerce City, Colorado.

Looking at the arrest affidavit, as obtained by Denver7, Sayers, 46, who had been a long time anti-gun advocate, walked up to a man and shot him point blank in the head.

That is to say, the victim has been identified as 28-year-old, Malcolm Watson, who was the one hosting the party for his own five-year-old son. According to the witnesses at the scene, evidently Sayers had reason to believe that Watson had some kind of involvement in the last year' death of his son.

Sayers Sr. has since been arrested and charged with first-degree murder and felony menacing.

Notably, this has come as a surprise to many as Sayers had been active in his community throughout his retirement from fighting in the UFC, BKFC, and Strikeforce events.

Even more, he previously was outspoken about denouncing gun violence, and created a Heavy Hands Heavy Hearts boxing gym, for the purpose of helping keep the youth out of trouble.

As of now, Sayers is being held in Adams County, Colorado on a $1 million bond, with his next court hearing being scheduled for Thursday at 8:30 a.m. (local time; MST).
