On Wednesday, UNLV running back Michael Allen announced that he intends to redshirt and enter the transfer portal at the end of the regular season.
Michael Allen Says He Was Promised "Better Opportunities"
"After three games, I have decided to utilize my redshirt and enter the portal at the end of the season as a (redshirt junior)," Allen posted on X. "I'm grateful for UNLV and wish them nothing but success. Expectations for opportunities, unfortunately, were not met, and I am excited to continue my football career."
Michael Allen alleged that the move was about the opportunities he wasn't getting on the field, posting that his "decision has no ties to NIL agreements."
Allen was fourth on the team in rushing, with 19 carries for 108 yards in three games this season the the Rebels.
Allen is the second player to leave the Rebels football program this week after starting QB Matthew Slukas made a similar announcement earlier in the day. Sluka reportedly left because of an unpaid NIL deal worth $100,000. The quarterback and his team allege that the payment was negotiated with an assistant after he agreed to transfer from Holy Cross.
Sluka shared the news in a post on X, saying, "I have decided to utilize my redshirt year and will not be playing in any additional games this season."
"I committed to UNLV based on certain representations that were made to me, which were not upheld after I enrolled. Despite discussions, it became clear that these commitments would not be fulfilled in the future. I wish my teammates the best of luck this season and hope for the continued success of the program."
Rebels Are Not Looking Behind Them In Spectacular Start
With their hot start to the season and potential to snag a college football playoff spot, the Rebels are looking towards the future.
During his regular radio show taping Wednesday, head coach Barry Odom said he was feeling good about backup QB Hajj-Malik Williams, the likely starter for this weekends game against Fresno State. Williams, a sixth-year transfer from Campbell, who left as the program's leader in career passing yards (8,236) and passing touchdowns (58).
