Damien Woody hints Jets could chase veteran QB with new draft ammo

Jets fans are still trying to process the franchise teardown that happened Tuesday, and now one prominent ESPN voice thinks New York might not even use all those new first-rounders the way most expect.

Former Pro Bowl lineman and now ESPN analyst Damien Woody floated the idea Wednesday that the Jets might try to use their draft haul to trade for a veteran quarterback instead of drafting one early.

"Ppl presume the Jets with their bounty of picks will use to draft their QB but don't dismiss them acquiring a vet QB via trade," Woody posted on X.

That speculation gained traction fast.

New York stunned the league by sending All-Pro corner Sauce Gardner to the Colts for two first-round picks. Moments later, they dealt Quinnen Williams to the Cowboys for another first and a second.

Add those to a 1-7 record and the Jets essentially announced they're punting on 2025 and leaning hard into future assets.

Most fans assume those picks are ammo to finally fix quarterback for good. But as Woody notes, drafting one early hasn't worked in New York. Sanchez. Geno. Darnold. Zach Wilson. Even Justin Fields — signed this offseason for two years and $40 million — has been a disaster.

A veteran would be safer. But good starting QBs almost never become available through trade. If New York did go down that path, there is one name around the league that continues to hover over the rumor circuit. That would be none other than Kyler Murray, recently benched by the Cardinals.

But it's all just speculation for now. The reality is, the Jets stink, and are likely to continue to do so.
