Further testing revealed that Gardner Minshew did not tear his ACL in Sunday's loss to Tennessee, according to multiple reports. Minshew is expected to miss time after going down early in the Week 16 game, but he avoided what initially appeared to be a season-ending injury.

Even so, the Chiefs are adding depth at the position. Multiple reports say they are signing quarterback Shane Buechele to the 53-man roster off the Buffalo Bills practice squad.

Buechele, 27, is familiar with the organization. He spent the 2021 and 2022 seasons with Kansas City and was also part of the team during the 2023 offseason and training camp. He has yet to appear in a regular-season NFL game.

Kansas City is scheduled to host the Denver Broncos on Thursday night to close out the Christmas Day slate. The Chiefs are expected to release their first injury report of the week later.

With Minshew sidelined, Chris Oladokun is the likely starter after playing most of Sunday's game following the injury.

Kansas City sits at 6-9 and will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2014. So yeah, the wheels really came off this season. That said, coach Andy Reid reportedly is not in any sort of danger of losing his job.
