Brandon Aiyuk has not been on the field in months. This week, he drew attention for reasons far removed from football.

The San Francisco 49ers wide receiver made headlines after posting a video showing himself driving more than 100 miles per hour in a Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing. The clip included footage of Aiyuk speeding past Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, a place he has not played this season.
On Wednesday, Aiyuk issued a public apology.
"Sorry y'all, my car content won't come with speeding anymore," Aiyuk wrote in a message posted to YouTube. "Was praying with my son tonight and wouldn't want anybody else to miss out on an opportunity to do the same with their loved ones. My apologies."
The incident and apology are the latest developments in a deteriorating relationship between Aiyuk and the 49ers. The team has already voided more than $25 million in guaranteed money from Aiyuk's 2026 contract, citing a lack of communication and missed mandated rehabilitation while he recovers from ACL and MCL injuries suffered during a Week 7 game against Kansas City in the 2024 season.
Aiyuk has remained away from team activities, and league sources have indicated a split between the two sides is increasingly likely this offseason.
Even if tensions were somehow eased, Aiyuk would still be ineligible to play in 2026 after being placed on the reserve left squad list, effectively closing the door on a return next season.
For now, the questions surrounding one of the league's most talented receivers continue to grow, with his future in San Francisco appearing all but finished.
