According to ESPN, police arrested linebackers Chris Cole and Darren Ikinnagbon on Wednesday night. Both faced misdemeanor charges of speeding at maximum limits.

Athens-Clarke County police also charged Cole with misdemeanor reckless driving and Ikinnagbon with speeding, reckless driving, and following too closely. These three charges are all misdemeanors.

Cole was released on a $26 bond while Ikinnagbon was released on a $39 bond.

"We are aware of the charges and are actively gathering additional information," UGA deputy athletic director Steven Drummond said in a statement. "As this is an ongoing legal matter, we will not be providing further comment at this time."

Cole played in 13 games this season. He tallied 59 tackles, seven tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks. Ikinnagbon played in five games for the Bulldogs. He posted two tackles.

The Georgia football team has dealt with a string of driving incidents involving players in recent years. Wide receiver Nitro Tuggle and offensive lineman Marques Easley were both suspended in March 2025 after police arrested Tuggle for speeding and reckless driving.

Back in 2023, offensive lineman Devin Willock and recruiting staffer Chandler LeCroy both died in a crash that occurred when LeCroy raced defensive tackle Jalen Carter.

Running back Trevor Etienne and cornerback Daniel Harris both missed games in 2024 due to driving-related arrests.

Another incident took place in November 2025. Backup offensive lineman Nyier Daniels and his mother were both arrested on multiple charges after a high-speed police chase in the city of Commerce, Georgia.

Daniels faces 17 charges, including two felonies, after allegedly attempting to elude police while driving in excess of 150 mph. He had his two younger siblings in the car.

Head coach Kirby Smart ultimately dismissed Daniels from the football team on Nov. 24, 2025.

"[I] have not had a chance to talk to him or his family, but obviously he will no longer be with us," Smart told reporters after making the decision.
