According to TMZ Sports, the receiver was placed under arrest around 8 a.m. on Wednesday for conceal/fail to disclose insurance benefit or payment. He was later released. Insurance fraud charges in California carry a possible penalty of up to five years in prison and fines that can reach $150,000 or double the value of the fraud, per Legal Clarity.

Jeffery's attorney has released a statement, which TMZ Sports obtained. The receiver denied the allegations and said that this is a misunderstanding.

"The underlying incident was a minor freeway fender bender, and he provided his information at the scene," the statement said. "These are unfounded allegations only, and Alshon has not been convicted of any offense.

"He will address this matter through the legal process, and he remains confident that the facts will demonstrate this was a misunderstanding and nothing more."

A second-round pick out of South Carolina in 2012, Jeffery started his NFL career with the Chicago Bears. He spent five seasons in the Windy City while posting two campaigns with at least 1,100 yards. He led the NFL in yards-per-touch (14.5) in 2013, his lone Pro Bowl season, and he caught 26 total touchdowns.

The receiver headed to the Philadelphia Eagles ahead of the 2017 NFL season, and he enjoyed some success. He caught nine touchdown passes during the regular season and then he added 219 yards and three more scores during the playoffs. He caught one of these touchdown passes during a Super Bowl 52 win over the New England Patriots.

Jeffery only played one full season for the Eagles over a four-year span (2017-2020), and he never topped 850 yards. He still scored 20 touchdowns while working with multiple quarterbacks.

The receiver has not played in the NFL since 2020 when he suited up for seven games. The Eagles released him after the season.
