The former New England Patriots receiver appeared in court over two days as trial progressed. This case centered on his former live-in personal chef Jamila Adams, who filed a lawsuit in December 2025 accusing him of slapping her, choking her, and then throwing her onto a bed.
According to the Associated Press, Diggs' attorneys questioned Adams' credibility during the two-day trial. They argued that the alleged assault never happened.
These attorneys also pointed to testimony from Adams' friends and employees, who reportedly said that she did not appear injured in the days following the alleged assault.
Additionally, the Dedham police officer who took Adams' initial statement, Kenneth Ellis, testified that he did not see visible injuries. He did not take any photographs or speak with witnesses.
"There was no assault, no strangulation, no incident at all on that day or any other day," defense attorney Andrew Kettlewell said, per the AP.
Assistant District Attorney Drew Virtue provided comments during the two-day trial about another factor — the relationship between the defendant and plaintiff. Diggs and Adams were more than employer and employee at times. They also had a sexual relationship, which Adams acknowledged while testifying.
She said that she had met Diggs in 2022 on Instagram and that they had a "complicated" relationship. She said it was not sexual at the time of the alleged assault.
Adams also testified that she had been paid about $2,000 per week while working as Diggs' live-in personal chef. She said that she felt that she had not been fully compensated.
The defense attorneys then pressed her on this issue, saying that the financial demands at one point were $19,000 while her attorney later sought $5.5 million. Adams said that she couldn't "speak on that" when asked about the $5.5 million claim.
The AP noted that multiple answers from Adams were struck from the record as non-responsive. She also received a warning from the presiding judge, who said that further non-responsive answers could result in the testimony being stricken from the record.
Now that the case is over, Diggs can try to find a new team for the 2026 NFL season. He signed with the Patriots last season, but the team released him after Super Bowl 60. He only played one year of his three-year deal before becoming a free agent.
