This game, which featured the Minnesota Frost and the Montreal Victoire, had to move to Tuesday night in Quebec. According to the Associated Press, the illness was limited to the Montreal roster.
"Tonight's Game 5 of the PWHL Walter Cup Playoffs between Minnesota and Montréal at Place Bell has been postponed due to player safety concerns related to illness," the league said in a statement.
"The decision was made following consultation with medical personnel and in accordance with the league's commitment to the health and wellbeing of players, fans, staff and all those involved in the competition.
"A rescheduled date for the game will be announced as soon as medical guidance determines it is appropriate to resume play. An update will be provided to fans within the next day.
"Medical assessment has determined that the symptoms are not consistent with hantavirus."
The hantavirus has made news recently after an outbreak on an Antarctic cruise ship. Some Canadians were identified as points of contact for the rodent-borne illness.
According to the CDC, symptoms for the hantavirus can appear roughly one to eight weeks after contact with an infected rodent. Symptoms can include fatigue, fever, muscle aches, dizziness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, chills, and headaches.
The CDC notes that 38% of the people who develop respiratory symptoms from the hantavirus may die.
The winner of this Minnesota-Montreal series will move on to the Walter Cup Final. They will face off with the Ottawa Charge, who made the final after winning a series against the Boston Fleet.
The Minnesota Frost won the title in the first two seasons of the PWHL. The team will attempt to win its third consecutive title by defeating Montreal after the illness postponement and then taking out Boston in the Walter Cup Final.
