Knight, the captain of U.S. women's hockey, revealed to CBS Mornings that she played in the Olympic Games in Milan with a torn medial collateral ligament in one of her knees.

Despite the setback, she scored a goal with just over two minutes remaining in regulation. This goal sent the game to overtime and set up an ultimate 2-1 win over Canada.

Upon Knight's return to the States, the Seattle Torrent announced that she would be out indefinitely while recovering from the injury. The hockey team also signed forward Sydney Langseth to fill in for the second half of the 2025-2026 season.

"I'm not walking around the best," Knight said during an appearance on CBS Mornings. "And I'm missing a few games for the Seattle Torrent now, but to be able to play through injury was definitely a mental sort of gymnastic challenge for myself, and also physical."

The Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) team has 11 more games this season, including Thursday night's matchup against the Montreal Victoire. The Torrent won the previous matchup 2-1 on Dec. 23, 2025.

The Seattle Torrent are 5-11 in regulation games this season and 1-2 in overtime/shootout games. The Pacific Northwest group sits last in the eight-team PWHL standings.

"While we're eager to be at full strength and recognize the anticipation of Hilary's return, we're focused on putting her and our team in the best position for a playoff push," Torrent General Manager Meghan Turner said.

"Hilary's leadership extends beyond her gameplay, and as we rely on her in other ways to start this half."

While the injury caused some issues during the trip to Milan, Knight also celebrated a milestone moment in her life. She proposed to girlfriend Brittany Bowe, an Olympic speedskater. She proposed before hockey practice and then later defeated Canada to close our her Olympic career.
