Tayek spent nearly three decades as the in-stadium voice at Progressive Field, becoming a familiar presence for generations of Cleveland baseball fans. He handled lineup introductions, in-game announcements and other duties, serving as a constant through multiple eras of the franchise.

"It is with great sadness we share the news that our longtime public address announcer, Bob Tayek, has passed away," the team said in a statement. "For nearly three decades, Bob was the voice of Progressive Field, welcoming generations of fans to Cleveland baseball with warmth and professionalism."

The announcement comes weeks after the Guardians said Tayek would step away from his role for at least the first half of the 2026 season due to health concerns, with the expectation at the time that he could return later in the year.

Tayek's tenure dates to the late 1990s, and he was widely recognized for his steady delivery and connection to the fan experience at the ballpark.

The Guardians said Tayek's presence became "part of the ballpark experience" and extended condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
