The incident occurred during an episode of Bla, bla, bla deportivo, a Mexican sports commentary show on the station Activo Deportes. Host Ed Martínez spoke to journalist Fernando Vargas, who sat in his parked car at a gas station.

Vargas' phone camera caught footage of an unmasked man walking up to the car, opening the door, and chambering a round in his firearm. He then began making demands. Vargas responded by handing over his keys, grabbing his phone, and exiting the car.

The video feed died, but the phone continued to broadcast audio of the back-and-forth. It ultimately cut out as viewers heard Vargas working to keep the criminal calm. He could be heard saying, "Calm down" multiple times while interacting with the criminal.

According to Univision, the man with the gun said, "The key — quick! Key, phones, and wallets — quick!"

It was not made clear in the video if the criminal knew that he was being broadcast to viewers through Vargas' phone. According to reports, authorities have not made any arrests after the incident.

Martinez provided an update on Instagram. He said that Vargas was safe and that he had received assistance from the National Guard. He also said that the crime occurred in Morelos, a landlocked state located approximately 2.5 hours south of Mexico City.

However, the criminal reportedly made off with Vargas' phone, wallet, car, and some other personal belongings.

"Thankfully he's safe, but very scared," Martinez wrote on Instagram. "If anyone recognizes the guy in the video, please help us and report him to the authorities. This happened in Morelos."
