"I remember the day I fell in love with football," Wilson said in the narration. "Waking up before sunrise with my dad and brother. Deep post routes and moon balls. Yeah, that's where it all began. But somewhere along the way, my love for football turned into more than just passion."
Wilson continued and explained how his love became an obsession as he worked his way through the ranks of football. He then thanked all of the coaches, teammates, people, and cities that shaped his life. This included former Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, who took a chance on a quarterback that many viewed as "too short."
This video marked the end of Wilson's NFL career, which began in 2012 when the Seahawks used a third-round pick to select him out of Wisconsin
The Virginia native spent 14 seasons playing in the NFL. He suited up for the Seahawks, Broncos, Steelers, and Giants while earning 10 trips to the Pro Bowl. He threw for 46,966 yards and 353 touchdowns.
Now that the retirement news is public, the Super Bowl-winning quarterback will prepare for the next chapter of his career. He will join the revamped lineup on The NFL Today on CBS.
He will preview NFL games each week alongside longtime host James Brown and analysts Bill Cowher and Nate Burleson. Wilson will be one of two new additions to the show as former lineman Kyle Long also makes his move to the desk.
"Throughout his career, Russell Wilson has been a winner, both on and off the field," said Harold Bryant, CBS Sports executive producer and executive vice president of production.
"We're thrilled to add a Super Bowl champion and one of the NFL's best quarterbacks to our roster. Russell's preparation and leadership set him apart and we look forward to the perspective and insight he will bring to the studio straight from the field."
