Rice exited a Dallas County jail on Tuesday, June 16, after spending 30 days behind bars for a parole violation. He had previously tested positive for THC, which violated the terms of his probation agreement tied to a 2024 arrest.

In March 2024, Rice was involved in a multi-car crash on a Dallas highway. He allegedly traveled at speeds approaching 120 mph. Authorities said that he left the scene.

After the police issued an arrest warrant, Rice turned himself in. He pleaded guilty to two third-degree felony charges and was ultimately sentenced to five years probation and 30 days in jail. He was also ordered to pay the victims' medical expenses.

The Chiefs receiver missed the first six games of the 2025 season while serving an NFL-mandated suspension. Once the season ended, he underwent a cleanup procedure on his right knee to remove loose debris that had caused inflammation.

Rice continued to recover from this surgery while serving his time in the Dallas County jail. This process will continue now that he is once again a free man.

The Chiefs have set the dates for training camp, which will lead into the preseason and then the 2026-27 NFL season. All practices will take place at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Training camp begins on Wednesday, July 29. It continues through Thursday, Aug. 20, the start of the second week of the preseason.

The expectation is that Rice will be ready for the start of training camp. Is is worth noting that the time in jail reportedly pushed the timeline a bit as he did not have access to the medical treatment and rehab that would help him recover at a quicker rate.
