According to ESPN, the wide receiver underwent a cleanup procedure on his right knee last week in Dallas. This surgery removed loose debris that had been causing inflammation in Rice's knee.

The initial injury occurred during a September 2024 game against the rival Chargers. Rice collided with quarterback Patrick Mahomes that resulted in a torn lateral collateral ligament. He also sustained a damaged hamstring tendon and posterolateral corner.

Rice underwent surgery in October 2024 and missed the rest of the regular season, as well as the playoffs and the Super Bowl.

This procedure will likely sideline him for two months, but he should be ready to rejoin the team in time for training camp. This timeline is longer considering that Rice is in a Dallas County jail for a month. He won't have access to medical treatment and rehab that would help him recover faster.

Rice recently tested positive for THC, which violated the terms tied to his probation agreement from a high-profile crash back in 2024 that left multiple people injured.

He reportedly surpassed 119 mph while weaving through traffic. This driving caused a multi-car crash and led to a warrant being issued for Rice's arrest.

The NFL initially aimed to suspend Rice for 10 games as part of discipline from the crash. However, he ultimately only missed the first six games of the 2025 season after the NFL and the NFLPA reached an agreement.

Once Rice returned, he played his normal role in the offense. He ultimately appeared in eight games while being targeted 78 times. He caught 53 passes for 571 yards and five touchdowns. He averaged 71.4 yards per game before being placed on injured reserve on Dec. 24 due to lingering symptoms from a concussion.
