The Cup Series standings have significantly shifted after the race weekend at Iowa Speedway. Eight of the top 16 drivers have moved at least one spot while drivers below The Chase cutline have made this final stretch of the regular season very intriguing.

Ty Gibbs made the biggest moves of all. He won Sunday afternoon's race after a late battle with Christopher Bell, and he jumped from fourth in the standings to second after taking advantage of the 15 bonus points from the win.
Gibbs remains 103 points back of leader Denny Hamlin, but he has gained significant ground ahead of The Chase.
Tyler Reddick experienced a very different weekend. He wrecked on the third lap of the Cup Series race, and he fell from second in the standings to fourth. He would have actually ended the day in third place, but Gibbs also jumped ahead of him with the win.

Other drivers who made gains on the day included Chase Briscoe, Bell, and William Byron. Briscoe finished the race in sixth place, and he moved up to fifth in the standings. Bell moved from 10th to sixth after posting his seventh runner-up finish of the season.
Byron moved up three spots into 11th place after finishing ninth. He had a quiet day, but it helped him build up more of a cushion to the cutline.
"Truthfully the next two weeks are probably my two worst racetracks, or my least favorite, at least," Briscoe said after the race. "So just got to try to go there and maximize our day. Our car should be really, really fast.
"Yeah, just have to execute, and we've been doing a really good job of that over the course of the last seven or eight weeks. Looking forward to the next couple and seeing if we can keep it rolling."

Kyle Larson and Carson Hocevar were two drivers who did not have as enjoyable of days at Iowa Speedway. Larson qualified second, but he finished 33rd and 18 laps down after being collected in an incident started by John Hunter Nemechek. He fell to 10th in the standings.
Hocevar did not get in a wreck. He just had persistent engine issues that kept him off the pace. He fell from fifth in the standings to eighth after a 31st-place finish.

The battle at the cutline also saw some changes for multiple reasons. Erik Jones lost two spots and fell to 50 points below after being collected in the Reddick wreck. Now, he believes he essentially needs a miracle to compete for a spot in The Chase.
"Yeah, we needed a few perfect week, and it needed to start here today for our Dollar Tree Toyota team, and obviously that didn't happen," Jones said after the wreck. "Just unfortunate with how early it is - Lap 3 - I'm just trying to settle in and get going.
"You don't expect it either in the top-10, top-five, you don't think you are going to get caught up in something crazy like that. It's a bummer. It's a huge mountain now for here on out to get to the Chase, so we will see."
Ross Chastain, for comparison, gained three spots after scoring 13 stage points and finishing seventh. He is only 47 points back of Austin Cindric, who had a forgettable day with a 29th-place finish.
The battle for The Chase continues on Saturday night at Richmond Raceway. The regular season will then end with New Hampshire on Aug. 23 and Daytona on Aug. 27.
