Mark Sanchez has submitted his plea in the case related to an incident in Indianapolis last year. He has chosen to plead guilty.

According to The Athletic, the former NFL quarterback and broadcaster filed a motion in Marion County (Ind.) Superior Court. The documents did not make clear to which charges he is pleading guilty. The motion also requested a sentencing hearing in mid-November.
Sanchez is facing multiple charges related to the incident in which he was stabbed. The list includes one felony count of battery resulting in bodily injury, a misdemeanor charge of unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor charge of public intoxication endangering the life of another, and a misdemeanor charge of battery resulting in bodily injury.
This incident occurred when Sanchez — then a Fox analyst — traveled to Indianapolis to cover a Week 5 game between the Colts and Raiders. He allegedly attacked a 69-year-old truck driver, who responded by stabbing the 38-year-old analyst multiple times.
Police arrested Sanchez as he was in the hospital receiving treatment for the stab wounds in his upper right torso. The truck driver received treatment for a laceration on his left cheek. He then filed a civil lawsuit against Sanchez and Fox Corporation.
This conflict allegedly began when Sanchez confronted the truck driver about parking in an alley between two hotels. The incident escalated and turned violent. The truck driver told the police that he had used pepper spray on Sanchez and that the quarterback smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech.
Sanchez was arrested and released on $300 bond after the incident. Fox Sports ultimately cut ties with him and moved Drew Brees into the broadcast booth.
"We are literally talking about people fighting over a parking space or a dispute about where people are parking, and it resulted in someone receiving just incredibly significant injuries," Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears said in October 2025.
"Where this incident took place was an area of the city which was very well covered by surveillance footage. There are multiple angles of surveillance footage which capture the events that occurred. And in addition, we had a number of civilian witnesses who came forward (and) provided information about what took place."
The jury trial had been scheduled to begin on Sept. 1, but Sanchez filing the motion makes it possible that the came will come to a resolution away from the spotlight. Though a judge must first rule on the plea agreement.
A former star for the University of Southern California, Sanchez entered the NFL as the fifth overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. He spent four seasons (2009-12) as the starting quarterback of the New York Jets, and he posted a win-loss record of 33-29 while reaching the AFC championship twice.
Sanchez missed the 2013 season due to a shoulder surgery and then the Jets released him. He then spent two seasons with the Eagles (2014-15), one with the Cowboys (2016), one with the Bears (2017), and one with the Commanders (2018).
The veteran quarterback retired after the 2018 season and joined ESPN as an analyst. He then moved to Fox Sports in 2021.
