Hendrick Motorsports is bringing back a classic look on a full-time basis after several years of sporadic use and making it a focus across two of the national NASCAR series.

The winningest organization in the sport will have the neon yellow numbers on all five of its full-time entries — four in the Cup Series and one in the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series.
Alex Bowman, Chase Elliott, Kyle Larson, William Byron, and Corey Day will all showcase the classic look while competing for wins and championships in their respective series. The cars of Larson and Day will be particularly interesting to see with the neon yellow considering that their HendrickCars.com schemes have blue numbers with red outlines.

"Neon yellow is back," team owner Rick Hendrick said in the announcement video on Wednesday.
The neon yellow numbers have long been tied to Hendrick Motorsports. Numerous drivers have showcased them over the decades, including Kyle Busch, Mark Martin, Jimmie Johnson, and Elliott. In fact, Jeff Gordon, Johnson, and Elliott put the numbers on display while winning Cup Series championships.
Elliott won a championship with the neon numbers most recently. He had the neon yellow numbers on his No. 9 NAPA Chevrolet Camaro during the 2020 season as he won the Cup Series championship for the first time.
Of course, the numbers have returned since that season in limited fashion. For example, Byron won the Daytona 500 in both 2024 and 2025 while featuring neon yellow numbers on his No. 24 Axalta Chevrolet Camaro.
According to Hendrick Motorsports, this marks the first time since the 2007 season that all of the cars will have the neon yellow numbers. That particular campaign featured the team celebrating 18 wins. Johnson won the championship for the second consecutive season.
The organization also notes that its drivers have combined to win 194 races while featuring the classic look on the respective cars. The plan will be to continue this streak during the 2027 season, Bowman's last as a full-time driver for Hendrick Motorsports.
