JR Motorsports has provided another piece of information about the 2027 driver lineup. The team will have a reunion.

According to a press release, Sam Mayer will return to JR Motorsports next season. He will compete full-time in the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series while driving the No. 1 Chevrolet Camaro. He will have Starkey as his primary partner for the full NASCAR season.
"I'm looking forward to working with Sam again," said Dale Earnhardt Jr. in a press release. "JRM and Sam know how to win races together and it's my belief that Sam has improved as a driver since our past relationship.
"I appreciate Sam's eagerness to win, and I know he's excited to get back in the building and get to work. We're also excited to welcome Starkey to the team and look forward to building a strong relationship and accomplishing great things together."
Mayer, 23, has spent two seasons competing full-time for Haas Factory Team. He made the playoffs last season and finished 10th in the standings after winning at Iowa Speedway. He is winless this season, but he is fifth in the Chase standings after three races.
Mayer, a two-time ARCA Menards Series East champion, entered the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series back in 2021. He competed in 18 races while driving for JR Motorsports, and then he moved to the series full-time in 2022.
The young NASCAR driver spent three seasons driving the No. 1 Chevrolet on a full-time basis. He won seven races, and he made the playoffs each season. He finished a career-best third in the championship standings in 2023.
Mayer's contract is the third piece of information provided by JR Motorsports about the 2027 lineup. The team previously announced that Carson Kvapil will be back in the lineup after winning two races and putting himself into championship contention.
The team also said that they convinced Justin Allgaier to return to the No. 7 in 2027. He had previously planned on retiring after this year, but Kelley Earnhardt Miller told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio that Allgaier will be back.
