According to a Sunday announcement, the Wu-Tang Clan will take the stage during halftime of the Lions' battle with the rival Bears on Thursday, Nov. 26. The game will air at 1 p.m. ET on CBS.
A member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Wu-Tang Clan debuted in 1993 and went on to become a cultural powerhouse. This group has released multiple albums that have gone quadruple-platinum, and it has expanded far beyond the music industry.
The members of the group include RZA, GZA, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, U-God, Masta Killa, Inspectah Deck, and Cappadonna. Founding member Ol' Dirty Bastard (ODB) passed away in November 2004.
The decision to select Wu-Tang Clan comes as part of a continuing multi-year partnership with a prominent Detroit figure. Eminem and Shady Records President Paul Rosenberg serve as executive producers of the halftime show, and they select the talent.
Last year, Jack White and Eminem took the stage during halftime of the Thanksgiving Day Classic. They performed before the Lions and the rival Packers faced off in the third and fourth quarters.
"We often like to do things that are both exciting and unexpected. A Wu-Tang Clan Thanksgiving performance in Detroit certainly fits that description!" Rosenberg said in a press release.
"Both Eminem and myself have been Wu fans since the early 90's along with a whole generation of Detroit football fans, and we are honored to bring them to this year's stage."
The Detroit Lions have become a staple of Thanksgiving over the decades. This year's matchup with the Chicago Bears marks the 87th iteration of the Thanksgiving Day Classic, and it provides an opportunity for the team to defeat a bitter NFC North rival.
