Joshua, a former heavyweight champion and Olympic gold medalist, was discharged late Wednesday afternoon and will continue his recovery at home, Nigerian authorities said. He had been hospitalized for observation after the crash earlier this week.

The accident claimed the lives of his strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami, and his trainer, Latif Ayodele. Both men were close friends of Joshua and long-time members of his inner circle.

Joshua was seated in the back of the vehicle when it collided with a stationary truck on a busy expressway in Nigeria. The crash occurred a little more than a week after Joshua defeated Jake Paul in a highly publicized bout.

After being released from the hospital, Joshua traveled with his mother to a funeral home in Lagos to pay his respects to Ghami and Ayodele, according to Nigerian officials.

Joshua has not commented publicly on the incident. The focus, for now, remains on his recovery and the loss of two men who played central roles in his career.

"The vehicle conveying Anthony Joshua, a Lexus SUV, was involved in the accident under circumstances that are currently being investigated," the Ogun State Police Command said in a statement.

"He was seated in the rear of the vehicle, sustained minor injuries and is receiving medical attention. Tragically, two other passengers in the vehicle lost their lives at the scene."
