Ole Miss Player Ejected For Cheap Shot Against South Carolina

Ole Miss Rebels guard Allen Flanigan was ejected after a cheap shot against South Carolina Gamecocks player Zachary Davis during Saturday's game.

Initially issued an offensive foul, Allen was hit with a Flagrant 2 foul and ejected following a review.

As a result of the ejection, he could see discipline in the form of a suspension from the Southeastern Conference due to how intentional the action appeared.

Davis continued playing and logged 31 minutes, scoring 14 and hauling in nine rebounds. Flanigan played just 21 minutes, scoring 11 and grabbing three rebounds.

As can be seen in the clip above, Flanigan appeared to swing his right hand/fist rather forcefully at Davis.

Accounts on X reacted to the clip strongly.

"This is still wild to me that this happened yesterday," one user wrote. "Allen Flanigan should be suspended for the rest of the SEC regular season."

"Any STUDENT athlete that assaults an opposing player like this should lose their scholarship," someone else said.

"Flanigan's good guy. SC had to be undercover on his," someone else said in defense of Flanigan. "Allen probably just had enough. Doesn't excuse it, but that was thrown for no reason. You know what. That's basketball, especially when a defense like that and what no calls. They had their hands all over Ole Miss for 40 min."

"I was at this game. It was super aggressive on both sides," someone else said. "It's interesting to see how brutal the game has become. I don't remember it being this physical when I was in college."

Regardless, the game went on, and the Gamecocks easily won 72-59. The Gamecocks improved to 22-5 and now have the most wins in the SEC. They're 10-4 in the conference, 13-2 at home, and 6-3 on the road. The Rebels fell to 19-8, with a 6-9 conference record and 14-2 at home.
