Mark Richt and the Miami Hurricanes are fighting an uphill battle this weekend in taking on the defending national champion Clemson Tigers in the ACC Championship Game. Not only is Miami likely at an overall talent disadvantage against the favorite in Clemson, the Hurricanes suffered a major loss this week with the absence of tight end Christopher Herndon for the remainder of the 2017 season as a result of a knee injury.
Just hours later, Richt and this 'Canes offense might be down another play-maker for the Clemson game, as Susan Miller Degnan of the Miami Herald brings word of another injury to the offense. This time, it comes in the form of sophomore pass-catcher Ahmmon Richards, who was carted off the field in practice on Wednesday according to multiple sources.
The exact nature of the injury is unreported at this time but Richt declined comment in the aftermath and that could be seen as less than ideal news from an outsider's perspective. Richards has produced 439 yards and three touchdowns through the air this season but, after a breakout freshman campaign, it became clear that he was an explosive option that could be utilized to make a much needed big play against the Tigers this weekend.
Richards was Miami's leading receiver last year, where he broke Michael Irvin's freshman receiving record with 934 yards.
It is important to note that Richards isn't necessarily ruled out for this weekend at this point but the struggles of Miami's offense have been well documented and the potential absence of another weapon would be quite noteworthy.
