ESPN analyst says one former Playoff contender back in the conversation after big win

Booger McFarland is a believer in this one-loss team.

One week after Oklahoma suffered an embarrassing home loss to Iowa State, the Sooners picked up a massive win over rival Texas to save their season.

Baker Mayfield threw for over 300 yards and two touchdowns, and Oklahoma is right back in the hunt for a Big 12 title. ESPN college football analyst Booger McFarland said the Sooners did enough to put themselves back in the playoff conversation, and Mayfield is back in the Heisman mix.

The win helped the Sooners' cause, but there are still several difficult games on their remaining schedule. Oklahoma travels to play Oklahoma State and then returns home to play conference leader TCU the following week in what will be a pivotal stretch of the season.

Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and TCU are the three favorites in the Big 12. The Sooners are the only one of those with a loss though and if they do go on to win out, that means the Big 12 champion would have at least one loss by the time College Football Playoff Committee has to make a decision on who goes to the Playoff.

No games are guaranteed wins as the Sooners found out with Iowa State, but the win over Texas put them in position to make a run at a championship over the last half of the season.
