While appearing on Outta Pocket With RGIII, Hunter elaborated on why he is deserving of winning the award this year over the current-favorite Boise State Running back Ashton Jeanty.

"We haven't seen a player that plays both ways, and I'm gonna keep saying that," the 21-year-old defensive back/wide receiver said.

"[Jeanty] has I think 95 carries for 1,000 yards. If I had 95 catches, how much yards you think I'd have? If I had 95 targets on defense what you think I'd have? If I had 95 catches on offense, what do you think I'd have?"

Hunter continued, "I try to tell you, he's got double the touches I've got on the offensive side of the ball and I still have defensive stats... that's still crazy... and we're only in Week 6, So, I'm not gonna argue about it."

To point out, Hunter does have the right to toot his own horn, as he plays almost the entirety of every game. In total, he has logged 322 snaps on offense and 341 on defense through six games this season.

To emphasize his dominance and versatility, Hunter leads the Big 12 conference as receiver with 49 catches, 587 yards, and six touchdowns. Then, as a cornerback he has contributed 16 tackles, two interceptions, and a key game-winning forced fumble in overtime vs. Baylor.

On the other hand, there's certainly an argument for Jeanty, as college football hasn't seen this much dominance at the running back position since Reggie Bush or Barry Sanders.

In six games, the Boise back has put up video game numbers, racking up 1,248 yards on 126 carries, to go along with 18 total touchdowns.

The rest of the season has to play out, but both collegiate stars are very deserving of the award, and anyone could make a case for either one.

It's also important to note, that Hunter and Jeanty may have to compete against some Heisman-candidate quarterbacks that include: Oregon's Dillon Gabriel, Miami's Cam Ward, and Alabama's Jalen Milroe
