Georgia Southern Football Preview: Breakout Year For Eagles

After a decent season with a bowl game appearance last year, the Georgia Southern Eagles are looking for more. Building off the new offensive system by Clay Helton's spread offense, the Eagles are aiming for a conference title.

THE CONF.: Sun Belt Conference (East Division)

2022 RECORD: 6-7 (went to Camellia Bowl, lost to Buffalo 23-21)

CONF. FINISH: 3-5 (tied 4th in East)

HEAD COACH: Clay Helton (2nd year at school - 6-7; 10th year overall - 52-31)

ALL-STAR CANDIDATES: Khalil Crowder, Sr./OG (Phil Steele first team Sun Belt); Jalen White, Jr, RB (934 rushing yards, 10 TDs); Khaleb Hood, Sr/WR( 925 receiving yards, 3 TDs); Marques Watson-Trent/LB (114 Tackles, 1 sack); Latrell Bullard/DT( 24 Tackles, 4 Tackle for loss); Brian Miller, Sr./OL (Phil Steele second teamer/Sun Belt).

THE NEWCOMER: Davis Brin/QB (Tulsa transfer, passed for 2,138 yards for 17 TDs last year)

This season could be a breakout for Georgia Southern with Clay Helton's second year as head coach. The Eagles' offense could do well in their second year with the spread offense by Helton. Along with the scheming are the transfers that Georgia Souther had got in the portal. This season could go well for the Eagles.

After a strong year from their offense, the Georgia Southern Eagles will have a new QB that will learn with the system. The Eagles could do well this season, with the offensive passing scheming being the best in the Sun Belt last year. This offense could do well this season and win the Sun Belt.

Along with the team offense improving, the transfers Georgia Southern got will improve the offense significantly. After losing their last QB, the transfer portal got the team Davis Brin, who did well in Tulsa last year. With the offense looking good, getting a QB transfer could help this team break out for another Bowl game this season.

This year's key game for Georgia Southern will be against regional rival Georgia State. This game will be crucial because, in a late October game, it could help their season. Beating a regional rival could gain momentum this season in the long run.

This year, a challenging game for the Georgia Southern Eagles will be against the Wisconsin Badgers. The Badgers look to be a formidable opponent with their high-end talent this season. While Georgia Southern did upset a Big Ten team last year, they could face a great team this year.

The chances for Georgia Southern winning a conference title this year will be high with the offense they have this year. Georgia Southern offense led by the Tulsa transfer Davis Brin could do well with this offense. While the transfer portal weakens the defense, the offense could do a lot this year.

This season could do well for Georgia Southern, with a high ceiling of 10 wins in 2023. There will be challenges against Wisconsin, Ball State, and Georgia State. With the spread offense, this season could do well for the Eagles for a conference title.
