Weeks ago, Keyshawn Johnson Jr. was cited for marijuana possession and that was not the best induction into the limelight for the true freshman wide receiver. Now, the news has broken that the son of NFL legend Keyshawn Johnson is not currently with the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team.

Nate Clouse of Husker Online brings word that Johnson Jr. is on "somewhat of a leave of absence" from the program and the Lincoln Journal Star reports that Johnson will not be returning until January at the earliest. In fact, the report indicates that the talented wide receiver is no longer in the state of Nebraska, instead Johnson Jr. is back in California, where he hails from Mission Viejo.
In response, Johnson Jr.'s father said the following on Twitter.
Sometimes you need to take a step back, before you can go forward 👀 #GBR

It is unlikely that the elder Johnson released that statement in coincidental fashion and it will be interesting to see what the next step brings. The Lincoln Journal Star report indicates that Johnson Jr. will have to meet "certain requirements" in order to achieve full reinstatement and, until that happens, the Cornhuskers are down a scholarship player for the next several months. Everyone would agree that this was not the start to Johnson Jr.'s career that anyone envisioned but there is still time.
