Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders has benefitted greatly from the transfer portal, but now Coach Prime is set to lose one of his top freshman, who is looking to play for a different school in 2024 and beyond.
Despite a 4-2 record to start the season, freshman linebacker Eoghan Kerry announced in an X post on Tuesday, October 10 that he would be entering the transfer portal.

"I've been in a unique position since coming to CU," Kerry wrote. "I've had 5 different position coaches and 3 head coaches within only a year of being here. Regardless, I'm grateful to all of you for teaching me and to those of you who believed in me, thank you...With that being said, I'll be entering my name into the transfer portal with 3 years of remaining eligibility."
While Kerry's message included a lot of gratitude towards players, fans, and coaches, some of the messaging suggests that he felt like the staff didn't fully believe in him. Kerry was a 3-star recruit out of Mater Dei High School, a top-tier program in California, in the 2022 recruiting class. He had scholarship offers from strong programs including Texas, UCLA, Utah, and Arizona, but decided to take his talents to Boulder.
Kerry saw some playing time at Colorado as a true freshman in 2022, appearing in 11 games with four total tackles. However, with no opportunities to see the field in 2023, the young linebacker has decided that he would be better off transferring to a different program in order to see more playing time.
As for the Buffaloes, they're sitting at 4-2 and just two wins away from bowl game eligibility. While Colorado wasn't able to shock the world against USC or Oregon, four wins is a huge lead forward for a program that went just 1-11 last season.
Players like Kerry may be frustrated with playing time, but Sanders is quickly turning around the Buffaloes program.
