Deion Sanders Lands Former SEC Quarterback

After going 3-0 to start the season, only to end up 4-8, the Colorado Buffaloes' college football program looked to be in a bit of disarray, but head coach Deion Sanders is hitting the transfer portal and recruiting trail hard, with his latest addition being a former Southeastern Conference quarterback.

That quarterback is former Vanderbilt Commodores signal-caller Walter Taylor.

"The opportunity to learn from and be developed by one of the best staffs in the country. I'm close with coach [Patrick] Shurmur," Taylor said. Shurmur, a former NFL coach, is currently the Buffaloes' co-offensive coordinator. "The opportunity to sit under an NFL coach with a wealth of knowledge would be an important part of my development."

Taylor, a sophomore, hasn't played much in his college. He attempted just 15 passes in 2023 with the Commodores, completing five for 44 yards and throwing an interception.

Regarding measurements, On3 lists him as 6-foot-5, while Pro Football Focus lists him as 6-foot-7. He's 235 pounds and has three years of eligibility remaining.

Coming out of high school, On3 ranked him as the No. 1,143 player in the 2022 recruiting class. He was the No. 68 quarterback and No. 45 player in all of Alabama.

Taylor is one of many players headed to the Buffaloes. He joins a list of players including the following:

  • Defensive lineman Anquin Barnes (from Alabama)
  • Wide receiver Cordale Russell (from TCU)
  • Edge rusher Quency Wiggins (from LSU)
  • Cornerback Preston Hodge (from Liberty)
  • Quarterback Destin Wade (from Kentucky)
  • Edge rusher Keaton Wade (from Kentucky)
  • Wide receiver Will Sheppard (from Vanderbilt)
  • Outside linebacker Matthew Bedford (from Indiana)
  • Tight end Chamon Metayer (from Cincinnati)
  • Offensive tackle Kahlil Benson (from Indiana)
  • Outside linebacker Justin Mayers (from UTEP)
  • Wide receiver Terrell Timmons Jr. (from N.C. State)
  • Outside linebacker Tyler Johnson (from Houston)
  • Outside linebacker Yakiri Walker (from UConn)

Taylor joins Destin Wade as a transfer to Colorado who will occupy the quarterback depth chart for what could be the last season with the Buffaloes for Shedeur Sanders, coach Sanders' son, before heading to the NFL.
